Official Work Permit Fee Exemption in Jordan

As part of the Jordanian government’s efforts to support families, an official exemption from work permit fees has been granted to eligible categories, especially persons with disabilities and individuals with chronic medical conditions.

This exemption applies to all stages of the domestic worker recruitment process, including:

1. Initial recruitment
2. Work permit renewal
3. Transfer of sponsorship (kafala)

Important Notice for 2025

The waiting period for obtaining the exemption may now take up to 6 months. Therefore, it is highly recommended to apply early and coordinate with a licensed domestic worker recruitment office to avoid delays.

Who Is Eligible for the Exemption?

To qualify for the work permit fee exemption for domestic workers, the following conditions must be met:

1. The sponsor must be a Jordanian citizen with a national ID number
2. No real estate or land owned by the family (except the primary residence)
3. Household income must not exceed 3,000 JOD per month according to Social Security records
4. No commercial registration under any family member

Required Documents

1. Initial medical report issued by a government, military, or university hospital
2. Copy of the sponsor’s national ID
3. Copy of the family book

Step-by-Step Procedure to Obtain the Exemption

1. Apply for Identification Card

• Submit an application through the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities website
• Fill out the online form
• Attach the required documents
• If the website is unavailable, applicants may visit the council or one of its branches

2. Government Follow-Up Procedures

• Obtain an inquiry form from the Social Development Directorate
• Visit the Department of Lands and Taxation to complete required approvals

3. Submit Documents

• Submit the identification card, medical report, and inquiry form to the Social Development Directorate
• The case is reviewed by a specialized committee

4. Official Approval Issuance

• An official letter is issued and sent to the Ministry of Labour
• Stamps worth 10 JOD are attached
• A formal undertaking and declaration are signed
