When does a sponsor lose their sponsorship rights for a domestic worker?
In Jordan, the sponsorship system is a fundamental legal framework that regulates the relationship between the employer (sponsor) and the domestic worker. According to the directives of the Jordanian Ministry of Labor, the sponsorship period and its conditions are clearly defined to protect both parties and prevent any form of exploitation or legal violations.

Sponsorship Period by Type of Employment
1. For workers recruited from outside Jordan:
The sponsorship period is 90 days, starting from the date of entry stamp at the airport. During this period, the employment agency is responsible for replacing the sponsor or resolving any issues according to the terms of the contract.
2. For internal sponsorship transfers within Jordan:
The sponsorship period is 30 days, starting from the date the worker is received by the new employer.
Cases Not Covered by the Sponsorship System
The Ministry of Labor specifies several cases in which the sponsorship system does not apply:
Expiration of the legal sponsorship period. The employer's refusal to renew the contract without legal justification. The employer's violation of the worker's rights. Reporting pregnancy, illness, or absence after the sponsorship period ends. Cases of physical, psychological, or sexual abuse. If the worker is found working outside the employer's home or for more than one family. Direct recruitment without using a licensed recruitment agency. Pregnancy occurring after arrival in Jordan. Returning the worker to their home country without official notification to the agency.
